OMNIA gets Defected In The House
E.M.A gives us the low down about the Defected tour landing on the island of the Gods and rocking the house at OMNIA.
It’s Sunday morning in Bali and I’ve woken up just that little bit more excited to be on this beautiful island as today the Defected party crew have landed here and they’ll be banging the house tunes out at OMNIA beach club this afternoon.
This island for sure gets the best and biggest line ups this side of the equator and today was no exception with Ferreck Dawn, Roberto Surace and the queen of house herself; Sam Divine, flying the flag for Defected plus local DJ ledge, Fadi warming up the midday party-goers and setting the scene at the iconic OMNIA beach club.
OMNIA is perched on top of a cliff in Uluwatu, 100 meters above the Indian Ocean and with the most stunning surrounding views.
My plus one had cancelled last minute and I’m on a “non-alcohol diet”, so I was solo dancing sober purely there for the music!
I arrived to Ferreck Dawn playing one of my fave tunes of 2018; ‘Dancin’ Kinda Close ft. Tough Love’ by Guz’ so it was straight on the dance floor for me! Shaking my tailfeather I unexpectedly got a blast of smoke in my face, (WHO WAS CONTROLLING THE SMOKE MACHINE haha) whilst Ferreck hyped up the crowd with another absolute winner, Patrick Topping’s 2017 hit ‘Be Sharp Say Nowt’.
Spotted in the crowd, out here on a lads weekend; Garage MC and DJ Kill Bill who I interviewed back in December, (you can read his interview here), he tells me he’ll be back in Bali June time for some gigs.
I also bummed into local Bali DJ Fadi who’d warmed up the crowd for Ferreck. I asked him how his set went and also what he’d played due to most of the greatest house tracks being on the Defected or Glitterbox labels! He said… “I had to dive real deep into my music collection”.
…And I just can’t get away from the Manchester massive! It was a lovely surprise to see fashion guru / event planner Asiya Durrani, who some Manchester peeps may know from the local social scene, partying in the mist of the ravers with her husband Mark celebrating her birthday.
Taking over the mix from Ferreck was Roberto Surace moving and grooving the now fully packed dance floor into the Bali sunset ending his set on his most recent no.1 Billboard hit ‘Joy’s’, making waves for the First Lady of Defected; Sam Divine.
Necking a shot with Roberto followed by an epic spin back and dropping one of the best set intros’ I’ve seen, Sam made it quite clear she was here and ready to party with us!
Bringing the house down with her unique collection of the pure sounds of vocal house, Sam is a born entertainer and you can see she just loves it behind those decks.
Highlight tracks for me included, remixes of Dennis Ferrer ‘Hey Hey’ and Shakedown’s ‘At Night’ plus OMNIA went off when Divine dropped Robin S ‘Show Me Love’.
Due to being sober my legs were starting to hurt from the five hours of pure tailfeather shaking (it’s funny the things you don’t notice when you are intoxicated) and although I wanted to stay my legs were saying no! So, I left 45 minutes early to Sam playing another one of my all-time faves; Heaven Ft. Andreya Triana.
I have to say this was the best party I’ve been to in Bali so far. Hats off to the Defected crew plus Mark Baker and his OMNIA team for hosting such an epic party, and to Sam Divine… you are truly a badass DJ Goddess! House music all lifelong!
