The art of brunch – VIVA reviews the Midland Hotel’s new brunch menu

Emma Chadwick | 10th June 2019

The iconic Midland Hotel has launched a new brunch in its beautiful Tea Room and it’s a steal at £19 per person or an added £20 if you go bottomless drinks wise.

It really is a thing of beauty, paying homage to the all-important gram, this brunch is insta-ready but also manages to taste wonderful too.

You choose a meaty, veggie or vegan option and it comes all in one go – so good looking we gasped when it arrived on a stand.

We had ours at noon and coincided with the afternoon tea brigade which the beautifully elegant room and smart switched-on staff are made for, but brunch is much more my cup of tea as I’m savoury rather than sweet.

It’s plentiful although each dish is a cute, mini portion, ready for their close up. Stand out morsels included the waffle with bacon and maple syrup, just totally yummy and which passes the American (my guest was a New Yorker) authentic test as well as the ‘just-out-of-oven’ cheese scones with pancetta butter.

Other treats were good to, from a smoked-salmon bagel to cinnamon brioche (actually that should have gone in the ‘stand out’ bit), pancakes and baked egg.  A lovely way to wile away an hour or two and catch up with a mate.

Drinks wise, you can take advantage of the full loose-leaf tea offer as well a brunchy alcoholic ones from mimosas to Bloody Mary’s. We did the later which were spicy and strong to give your day a kickstart and then switched to bubbles.

It’s not the kind of place where you would go full hog and rowdy bottomless, but it is wonderfully elegant for a date with a difference, taking the rents or enjoying a bit of posh nosh with your squad.

Viva verdict: A real treat in a perfect setting a total bargain at £19.
