The best UK cities for diverse dining

Web Team | 25th February 2019

As a nation, we love food. From cooking it to eating it, we love the whole process, so it shouldn’t leave you shocked that we also love to eat out when it comes to food and drink.

Our constant love for food is forever evolving, and a vast change in what we eat, which has seen a rise in vegan diets, people consuming less meat and a rise in the popularity of Italian food, all aided by a change in commercial catering equipment, has changed the landscape of city dining – meaning, you can often find something you love almost anywhere in the UK.

Manchester

We love Manchester, and you should too. There are so many places to eat out here you won’t know where to start. From your everyday chain places that can be found everywhere from the Arndale to Piccadilly Gardens and the Corn Exchange, to the luxury business hub of Spinningfields, where you’ll find slightly pricier food, and the Northern Quarter and Ancoats, filled with unique individual venues for you to experience. With so much to eat here, the best thing to do is decide what type of food you want and then find a restaurant from there.

Norwich

An unusual one, yes. But, if you’re a vegan, this is a great place for you to visit. In 2019, Norwich topped a poll to find the most vegan-friendly city across the nation. There’ll be no worry of ending up with the risotto or having to select a few dishes off the starters list here, with options ranging from Middle Eastern delights and Indian restaurant to comfort food like pizza, pasta, burgers and burritos. It’s the city where the plant-based restaurant is truly thriving.

York

Long gone are the days of a few fancy restaurants, and in its place stands a bright, vibrant and exciting hub of foodie deliciousness. Whether you want a classical affair or a swish hipster aesthetic, York has them all, without losing any of their local identity. Wander the cobbled streets and take your pick of everything from Korean barbeque food to gastronomical side busters designed to blow you away.

Bath

There’s a wealth of places to dine here that cover quite a spectrum. From quiet and cheap eateries to ones sporting Michelin stars, Bath has all its bases covered. Take a wander into a delightful pub and sample the local produce, try one of the newer vegan and veggie restaurants or head to one of the street food stalls, sporting international cuisines, or a new small-plate restaurant for something different.

Whether you’re dining out as a couple, with friends, family or alone, the dining out experience in the UK is something that caters to everyone’s needs these days.

So, regardless of the food you like, or the diet you’re on, you’ll be able to find everything from breakfast and brunch to dinner and light snacks that take your fancy in these thriving foodie cities.
