The UK’s first-ever-all season beach is to open in Manchester: The wellbeing resort Therme Manchester has announced that its huge development at TraffordCity will bring an all-season beach to the Greater Manchester region.
The urban beach is part of a series of additions to existing plans that includes a ‘next generation’ waterpark, thermal bathing and a wellbeing spa as well as immersive digital art, an on-site urban farm and botanical gardens.
Enclosed in tropical surroundings, the combination of features highlights the aim to be far more than just a waterpark and spa with an integrated experience to benefit physical and mental health.
It is the first in a nationwide rollout of the Therme concept, set to include Glasgow, London and Wales.
The UK rollout reflects the company’s ‘90/90’ vision, working to make its concept accessible to 90% of the UK population within a 90-minute travel time.
Updated plans, which are being delivered in partnership with Peel L&P, adopt the very latest technology to make the development even more sustainable and deliver additional exciting features for visitors. This includes the world’s first living waterslides with a 3D printed superstructure to house thousands of plants, as part of its ‘next generation’ water park area.
A visitor and education centre where school and community groups can learn about sustainability, food and nature will be offered as part of its outreach work.
An incredible £250 million is being put into the project.
A spokesperson for the resort explains: “Our commitment to bring Therme Manchester to the UK is as strong as ever”
“Expert independent studies have shown the hugely positive economic and social impact, helping to create jobs, economic prosperity and bringing health and wellbeing to the daily lives of millions of guests.”
Therme is aiming to submit its revised plans to Trafford Council in the summer. Construction of the development is scheduled to begin in 2023, with a build time of around two years.
