Known as one of the last surviving (and thriving) traditional pubs in Alderley Edge, The Drum & Monkey has been serving customers for over 70 years.
Whilst the COVID pandemic has certainly put pressure on the business, the whole team behind The Drum have been working tirelessly around the clock to ensure they will make it through, and have already come up with a brand new winter menu and a new weatherproof outdoor area to keep their customers safe, whilst retaining the atmosphere of a traditional English pub that we all know and love.
A new dish making its debut is the black pudding salad. Thick slices of black pudding are served with crispy bacon bits, a poached egg and mustard dressing. The combination of flavours works perfectly and a clear winner in my opinion.
For those plant lovers the wild mushrooms served on a toasted brioche in a rich and creamy stilton sauce is the perfect comfort food dish.
If you feel like you have missed out on the delights of the Manchester Christmas Market’s this year, then the roast pork bap is one you need to add to your list. Thick slices of roast pork covered in apple sauce and doused in a rich homemade gravy will transport you back to those crisp winter evenings, surrounded by twinkling fairy lights and wooden huts. Only this time, you can enjoy this dish sat down and in the comfort of a roaring fire – I know where I would rather be.
If you prefer something sweet, the dessert menu is full of great British favourites. The sticky toffee pud is fluffy and light with a deep caramel treacle like flavour. The perfect dish to get you geared up for bonfire night.
If a dessert is too much to handle, the Baileys hot chocolate is simply divine. Ideal for the cold winter nights and my personal favourite drink to get me into the Christmas spirit.
Overall, if you are looking to make the most of the colder winter evenings, The Drum and Monkey is the perfect venue. They are all completely COVID compliant and have even put extra measures in place to keep their guests as safe as possible.
You can book a table online, and they have lots of seating outside which includes tented and heated areas, beautifully lit with fairy lights. Inside their recently refurbished dining area features a real log fire and plenty of socially distanced seating.
So, if you want to bring back a little Christmas magic in these uncertain times, be sure to pay them a visit and help support a local business, as they really have gone above and beyond to help keep you safe and happy.
